Michael D. Flynn

Michael D. Flynn represents individuals and businesses in federal and state tax matters, with a practice centered on tax litigation and on the examination and appeals stages of audits.

His background spans private practice, industry, and public accounting. He spent more than a decade in the tax department of a major investment bank and several years in the tax practice of a Big Four accounting firm — work that gave him a working knowledge of the taxation of complex financial products and cross-border transactions that few controversy practitioners bring to an audit.

That experience matters most where an assessment turns on how an instrument or a transaction is characterized rather than on whether income was reported. Mr. Flynn counsels clients through examination and appeals and, where a matter cannot be resolved administratively, in litigation at both the federal and state levels.
